Frequently asked questions.

  • We believe psychotherapy can be beneficial to almost anyone who wants to improve or change their life in some way and is willing to do the work.

However, there are some cases in which it is really important to seek professional mental health help. These include if you find yourself struggling to maintain relationships, experiencing large fluctuations in your mood, having difficulty taking care of your body, or any other difficulty in functioning.

If you are on the fence about therapy and you’ve never experienced it, the best thing to do is to give it a try and see how it goes.

  • Some of our providers are in network with Aetna and United Healthcare.

If you’re starting therapy with one of our providers and they are out of network with your insurance, we will provide you with a good-faith estimate of what the cost would be, as well as a superbill that you can use to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Most insurances will reimburse 60-80% of session costs depending on your benefit package.

  • Typically, between 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your provider.

  • Most people will see their therapist once a week. In some cases, a higher frequency of appointments may be needed depending on what issues the person is working on.

In other cases, people may come in every other week or once a month, once they feel like they have achieved their goals in therapy and are getting ready to wind down.

  • This will depend on the issue you’re coming to therapy for, how consistent you are with your sessions, and how well you and your therapist work together.

At PACS, we work in 12-week increments. The therapist and client work together to formulate goals that are achievable in 12 weeks and review those goals at the end of that period to decide on the next steps.

  • This happens! We are all different and experience different levels of compatibility with people in our lives (including therapists).

For that reason, in our intake, we will ask you a number of questions aimed to identify what you are looking for (and what you don’t want) in a therapist so we can match you with the staff member who we think would be the best fit for you.

At the same time, when conflict happens between therapists and clients it can often be very useful to work through it, so we encourage you to be open and honest with your therapist to give yourself the best chance to benefit from whatever is happening in the room.

  • Absolutely. If you are an adult who thinks you may have ADHD or a learning disability, we offer psychological testing specifically designed to assess that.

  • It depends on what you’re being tested for. You will have an initial meeting to discuss your reasons for testing and what you’d like to learn from it.

From there, your clinician will identify which tests to use and will be better able to give you a sense of what the schedule would look like.

We typically schedule a feedback session to discuss the results 4 weeks after testing has been completed.

  • Feel free to schedule a consultation here or email info@pacsny.net if you’d like to discuss retaining us as experts. We typically arrange a flat fee after the details of the case have been discussed over the phone.

  • You may submit a referral at info@pcacsnyc.com. We will get back to you within two business days.

  • We believe therapy is most effective when people take the initiative in seeking help.

Please feel free to share our consultation page with them. It’s super easy to schedule!
